Electrical problems we fix for Portland homes and businesses
Portland Metro Electric is a full-service electrical contractor for homes and small businesses across the Portland metro. Most calls start with a symptom, not a service name: a breaker that trips when the microwave and space heater run together. An EV in the driveway and a panel that can’t take the charger. Walls open for a remodel, a hot tub waiting on its circuit, or one ice storm too many and it’s finally time for a standby generator. Or lights that flicker, an outlet that feels warm, and you want a licensed electrician to look at it this week, not this month.
Tell us the symptom; we’ll tell you the real cause, the fix, and what it should cost, before anyone shows up.
What an electrical contractor costs
Nobody likes calling a contractor blind. So we don’t work that way: for most projects, we give you a minimum and maximum price on the first phone call, and a personalized written estimate within 24 hours, often without an on-site visit.

Electrical Panel Upgrades & Breaker Boxes
Replace outdated panels and old fuse boxes, and add the capacity to run an EV charger, heat pump, or modern kitchen without tripping breakers.
Electrical Service Upgrades
Bring your home or business's incoming service up to 200+ amps so it can safely handle today's electrical demand instead of a panel sized for a 1980s house.
EV Charger Installation
Level 2 home charging sized and wired to your vehicle and panel, so you plug in overnight and skip the public charger, many installs done same-day.
Stand-By Generator Installation
Automatic backup power that kicks in when the grid goes down, keeping your heat, fridge, and lights running through Portland's storm-season outages.
Residential Remodel Wiring
New circuits, recessed lighting, and panel work for kitchen, addition, and whole-home remodels, wired to code and around your project timeline.
Commercial Electrical
Installations, maintenance, and code-compliant repairs that keep your storefront, office, or shop running without downtime or failed inspections.
Hot Tub & Sauna Wiring
Properly sized 240V circuits, outdoor-rated components, and GFCI protection installed to code, so your hot tub is as safe as it is relaxing.
Service Calls
Tripping breakers, flickering lights, dead or warm outlets, GFCI/AFCI, smoke/CO detectors, grounding, and aluminum-wire replacement done right.
Electrical Grounding & Surge Protection
Proper grounding and whole-house surge protection shields your family and electronics from shock, power surges, all installed to current code.

Our Step-by-step service Process
From the first call to the final reveal, our process is built for clarity, comfort, and craftsmanship.
A Portland Metro Electric expert will answer any of your questions, discuss the project in detail, provide professional expertise, and consultation. For most of our projects we can provide a minimum and maximum of what you can expect to pay for your electrical project.
For certain projects we will provide a customized estimate without needing to schedule an in person visit. For complex projects we will schedule one our our electricians to visit your residence, provide an in person inspection, consultation, and a customized estimate.
We will send you a customized estimate, and let you select the best date & time to schedule your project. The estimate will include a summary of the projects material costs and fees. Once the estimate is approved and project date is scheduled, we will take care of everything from permits (if necessary), to ordering all the materials.
On the day of the project our electricians will give you a courtesy call before arrival. We will begin and complete the electrical project. We will provide a detailed walkthrough on how to operate the newly installed service (EV charger, electrical breaker box, hot tub, etc.). And finally insure you are satisfied with the project and service.
Questions homeowners ask us
It depends on the job, but you shouldn’t have to schedule a visit to find out. For most projects we give a minimum–maximum range on the first phone call and a written estimate within 24 hours.
An electrician is a licensed tradesperson; an electrical contractor is a licensed business (CCB# 249412 in our case) that can pull permits, carry bonding and insurance, and take legal responsibility for the project. For anything beyond a small repair, panels, service upgrades, remodels, you want a contractor, and the electricians doing the work should still be licensed journeymen. Ours are.
Yes, licensed, bonded, and insured in both states, so we handle jobs on either side of the river, from Gresham to Vancouver.
For most repairs and service calls, yes, and we take emergency calls 24/7. Larger projects are scheduled after your estimate is approved.
Yes. Residential work is the bulk of what we do; we also serve small commercial spaces, cafés, offices, retail, including build-outs, LED retrofits, and maintenance.
Often the panel is the real project, not the charger. If your home has a 100-amp service or an older panel, we’ll tell you on the first call whether a charger fits your existing capacity or needs an upgrade, see our [panel upgrade] and [EV charger] pages for specifics.
For any other questions or to schedule an upgrade consultation, contact Portland Metro Electric. We’re here to ensure your electrical system is safe, efficient, and tailored to your needs.
